On 29 August, Year 9 student Ashleigh Young was selected to officiate for the Karyn Murphy Cup, a girls Rugby League tournament for year levels 5-12. Teams came to compete from all over Queensland, with the top four teams from each age group playing in a round robin style tournament.
Ashleigh was selected to officiate for six games. She started a Rugby League Officiating Training course at the beginning of the year. Each month she has gained more experience and been assessed by her course administrators, and now she has real experience in a major tournament!
Ashleigh was interested in becoming a referee because her father and brothers play regularly at the Pine Rivers Bears Rugby League Club in Petrie.
