2019 Graduate Joins Navy

“On the 10th of February 2020, I enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy, a dream I’ve wanted since I was 10 years old. I moved from Brisbane to Melbourne and I walked through the gates of HMAS Cerberus where I started my journey through recruit school. A course designed to make sure we meet the required standards of becoming a sailor in the Royal Australian Navy while instilling the navy’s core values.  With plenty of blood, sweat and tears I successfully completed my training which included various activities such as: our individual readiness, unit readiness, mission readiness, survival at sea, corrosion control, firearm training, first aid, survivability  and safety, and sea familiarisation. Although some mornings I woke up at 4:30 am and didn’t go to bed until beyond 10.00 pm, it sparked a personal transition and transformation within. It made me face challenges head on. I now stand proud with my head up, shoulders back and uniform ironed as a member of the Australian Defence Force. For the next few months I am going to complete my initial employment training at the Defence School of Policing where I will graduate as a Naval Police coxswain.“
