A Wellbeing and Resilience Values Program initiative for Prep to Year 6 Students in 2019

Focus for Week 7: Where Are Highlights?

Highlights are happy, positive experiences that are life’s blessings. This week at school, the students will be learning how to look for highlights in their lives.

In the younger grades, the students will share highlights they have experienced. They will be encouraged to listen to each other and feel good and happy about the highlights they hear. Each class will identify the five senses as a source of highlights and take the time to thank God for the blessings in their life.

In Years 3 and 4, students will brainstorm highlights they have experienced from sources such as people, nature, sport, learning and the five senses. They will discover that God has made each person unique and as a result, we all identify different highlights in our lives. Years 3 and 4 will celebrate these differences and identify as many blessings as they can during the upcoming week.

In Upper Primary classes, students will learn about seven possible sources of highlights, including renewal and achieving goals. In groups, they will brainstorm and categorise highlights into these seven areas and reflect on how they are freely available to us every day.  The students will be encouraged to remember to thank God for these blessings.

At home this week, take the time to identify sources of highlights for your family. The wonderful people in our lives are frequently sources of our highlights, so thank each other for the blessings you experience together and bring to each other.
