Students from the Year 7 OAK (Organised Acts of Kindness) Challenge Group have been given the opportunity to actively serve in our community this term by visiting an aged care centre. Each student was challenged to consider the value of living for more than themselves, and serving others. On two separate occasions students visited the Petrie Respite Centre and were encouraged to invest time in an older generation to help them feel valued and appreciated. Apart from learning from the wisdom of those with more life experience through a variety of activities, students also took their laptops to the centre and spent time sharing some of the things that can be done with modern technology with the residents. The staff and residents at the centre consistently made comment on the quality of care and respect the students demonstrated in their visits.
