This term, as part of their Challenge – Invictus classes, Year 8 students have been discussing the role that learning a new skill plays in fostering a strong sense of self-worth and confidence. Students selected and participated in a ‘Masterclass’ over a six week period to learn a new skill from a teacher/mentor. As a special memory event this term, students attended a Mastery Event to showcase their learning.
This Mastery Event had challenges that required students to demonstrate perseverance and practise to coordinate the members of their team to overcome the challenges.
Following the afternoon challenges was a Mastery Film Festival. Students were tasked with creating short films to showcase their mastery achievement to their peers. Each student was handed a voting token to nominate the best film displayed to win $100 to be donated to a charity project of their choice.
Congratulations to the Mountain Biking group on their win. These students have nominated to donate their prize money to the www.thepushupchallenge.com. This is a campaign raising funds to support Headspace, an organisation providing tailored and holistic mental health support to 12 – 25 year olds to address the growing mental health concerns in our Young People. These students also win a lunchtime pizza party to celebrate their skill mastery.
We would like to thank each of our teachers and mentors (listed below) who facilitated the ‘Masterclasses’ throughout this term to help our students engage in meaningful pursuits and to inspire a joy for learning.
