Yr 9 Community Service Activity Day

Friday, 10/11/2017 Posted by: Marketing

As part of the Yr 9 Challenge: The Next Step subject at Northpine Christian College, students were given an opportunity to put into practice the skills they have learnt during the year in being a positive role model in our communities. One of the challenges assigned was for each student to multiply $20. A significant amount of money was raised and we ended up with over $1,000 profit! This money has been assigned to our community service days.

On Friday 3 November, the students spent the day planning and purchasing items to fill “Operation Christmas Child” present boxes. Students went to the Westfield shopping centre in North Lakes and returned to school to pack their boxes. A small group of students purchased presents for needy community members which will be distributed to the students at Caboolture Primary School on their upcoming second service day. Year 9 student Jermain McKain said of the day, “It was actually a really fun day where the focus was about others and doing things for kids who might not get any Christmas presents.”

The students took great delight buying gifts for girls and boys in various age groups. Year 9 student Jay Watson said, “Giving back feels better than taking.” At the end of the day, they managed to fill 49 boxes. The remaining proceeds have been allocated to the final service day on 14 November which will allow students to be very practical and hands on in their approach to community service. This will include cleaning, gardening, mowing, environmental restoration and sewing gifts for the needy.
